New Comission and a little side project.

Hello world,
Well as the header says, I have a new commission which I will start doing step by step entries for probably Tuesday if not Monday even through I am a few steps into the project. The project is a commission for a big Touhou fan in California.

I kinda started over because the applique work was not to my approval so I decided to remove it but between plucking out the threads, I decided to take a break to work on some side items I may put in my shop:
Blind Thread Couture

Well this particular item I am not going to put up because it is not absolutely perfect and I am still playing with decorating it a little bit but still, it's something that I am tinkering with. But I am thinking I may offer more of these nicely decorated fans as well as some other jewelry items I've made

Opinions needed.

I need an honest opinion... which one of these dresses should I make?

A Friend of mine already suggested I do number so there's already a vote for it. Please leave a comment with your suggestions. Also, I was thinking of color suggestions other than white or any other traditional colors you usually see wedding dresses.

Death and Rebirth

Woo boy, I learned a lesson about weight loss, measurement and polyester brocade. The reason why the post is called Death and Rebirth. The Red dress from this previous Post suffered a Great setback. While I will still consider it finished, I need to go back and modify it. You see, while I did try the dress on once for a few minuets, it was during a time when I wasn't eating due to lack of food. Well when that all changed I inadvertently put on a few pounds but didn't try the dress on again. I should have taken a clue when the dress was a little snug.

The Death of the Dress:
Getting to the point... I went to a party wearing the dress and suffered the most embarrassing wardrobe malfunction as the zipper completely gave way and burst open.

Rebirth:
Well later... much much later after some incidents unrelated to sewing happened and I got home. I came to the idea of complerely taking out the back zipper and making it a corseted back. It will still have shoulder straps and when posted it will be labeled Dress 1.5: The Phoenix.

In other news, I've decided to include costumes in the 75 Dress challenge. I will be posting pictures soon as well as a post about Phoenix so check back often.

In Progress: Denim Dress

Sleepless nights are both a blessing and a curse to me. A blessing because as I am laying in bed tossing and turning trying to clear my mind of that is troubling me, I get ideas for other projects I've left unfinished but a curse because alot of times I forget the ideas I came up with...but not this time.

Awhile back I started working on this one dress and well I had become uninspired to finish it so I just stuck it aside. Well as I was tossing in bed it hit me. Denim and Lace.

More to come later. ;)

Dress 1: The Red Party dress

Well techinically this is dress number 4 but right now this is the most recently finished dress here and well with this one, I will be all dressed up with no where to go LOL

I kid! I kid.

Anyway here's the information on this dress:

Base Pattern I used was McCalls 5001. It is a sleeveless red dress made from a red/multi colored dragon and phenoix polyester borcade print. The dress is lined with a pale lemon yellow georgette and the ruffle at the bottom is a golden yellow sparlke organza.

This dress I amazingly did in under one week. Normally it would take about two or so depending on my motivation level, but since starting this blog and challenging myself I am feeling a little more productive. Granted it did take a good half a day to pin and cut out the pattern but it's because the Georgette was a little more difficult to keep flat and I kept pinning and unpinning just to make sure everything was nice and smooth.

The funny thing is I ended up having to take a little bit out of the lining because I forgot to shorten the pattern for the lining to it was too long. Also because I am not completely fond of fully strapless dresses, and I didn't want to waist my steel spring boning on this dress I modified it slightly by adding shoulder straps, though I think I May have to shorten them. I don't know yet.

Overall, I Like this dress, I just hope an occasion will come up where I can wear it because it's a little too fancy for just going to the store :)

An Introduction.

Hello World,

My name is...Devon, and since I was a little girl watching my grandma, I've always loved sewing. You can even ask my family and they will most likely agree. Since I was about 8 years old, and my grandma showed me how to use a needle and thread. From then my wishful dream of becoming a fashion designer came to life as I would always get in trouble with my mom for cutting something I shouldn't have to make new ballgowns for my Barbie dolls.

Sadly when I reached junior high and high school, my dreams of being a fashion designer were derailed when I was strongly discouraged by my special ed teacher that such a career would not work for me because of my severe visual disability. You see, I am an albino with a severe visual disability. I did somewhat defy the odds slightly my senior year of high school when I took a sewing class and the things I didn't learn from my grandmother I learned in school

I've rambled enough though so let's get to the point.

As I mentioned, I Love to sew, but thus far it hasn't been very fufilling for me seeing as I was just sewing without a purpose most of the time. Oh granted I worked on costumes and the ocassional dress for myself , I did not feel satasfied even when my friends and family would praise my work.

I felt like I didn't deserve it or that my work was nothing special. So I decided I am going to challenge myself and this blog will be a means of tracking my progress. My goal is to make 75 (or more actually) dresses between now and my next birthday. My actual goal is 100. I haven't decided if I am going to count costumes in this or not, but the criteria I've set for myself is that they have to be well constructed so that they are sturdy enough for regular wear. They have to be something I would wear on a regular basis no matter how wild it is.

I think I can do it.

Anyway that's it for my intro. Check back often as I post new dresses and outfits I make.
